Crystal Lord Demise
Wednesday was a warm spring day in Dereth and in celebration of the rebirth of spring I was running around the Dires killing anything and everything that moved. After clearing the second plateau I raced thru the small garden glen to the dale over looking the plains before the nexus valley. Upon cresting the hilltop I had a flashback vision of the radar screen from the Obs Plains of old. What the heck was that mess at the juncture of the hill, plain and forest? O M G it’s a spawn of luggies, bandies and there in at the base of the slope is Crystal Lord and his groupies. A quick listing of friends showed only Jack-d-Ripper online, so I fired off a "/a got a C Lord by the nexus valley" in hopes others were around on their secondary toons. Only Tovenaar responded to the call to arms, j-d-r must be afk. So I gave him the vital information and waited for him to show, all the time wondering this is gone to be really great 2 mages a massive herd of minions and one crystal lord jammed so close to two other spawns they are gone to be a pain to keep clear. Once Tov arrived we went down and cleared out the nest of bandies and luggies as we made our way over into the tree line for cover. Tov searched around for a good location for an attempted ambush while j-d-r logged out. Finding a good spot we buffed up and Tov explained the procedure, we drag the Lord off and then block his return to the nest using a tree. Good theory, and of course the first announcement of our presence brought the entire swarm down on our position. As we retreated further into the woods Tov explained how we would use my UA abilities to kill the lord. I knew that the Nederlands has a liberal drug policy but obviously as high as Tov was it is way more liberal then even I imaged. MY UA Abilities, what’s that boy on and can I have some too! As we returned to our ambush point after the swarm retreated just as J-d-R re-entered the realm. A quick tell of our situation and position yielded a positive response of O T W. The second draw of the lord got him past the tree and I stood to the side to block his return back up the hill while Tov positioned himself to the left. So it was tree, me, tov with the lord trying to get between the tree and me back to the spawn location. I commenced slashing away doing 35 to 65 in damage and an occasional good hit of 160. But as I was in melee mode I eventually was dragged out of position and the Lord scurried back to his cronies. About this time Jack showed up and started buffing up. We explained the procedure and what we were planning to do when he finished. Also about this time the bone headed Substanace runs thru the area stirring up a few monsters to delay the buff session and otherwise cause a few moments of tension. But, he wasn’t trying to grieve merely stupidity and unfamiliarity of the spawn location spots and he eventually went away after we said we were in good shape. Once we were ready, with jack and I a bit further out from the tree Tov got the lords attention. Really surreal standing in place as a crystal lord goes crashing past. Once the lord passed us Tov raced back and stood between the tree and I. As a non-melee he wouldn’t be dragged out of position. Leaving Jack and I free to wail away on the Lord. So it went Jack sticking a dagger in the Lord’s back as I poked away with hamuad’s katar in the side and Tov stood there on the look out for respawns. Thankfully only one luggie respawned close enough or had enough interest in the noise we were making to come over and investigate so Tov wasn’t too busy and was able to provide health status reports. Under 50. 25, 5, 3, 2 and suddenly it shattered into a thousand fragments of crystal shards. WOOT WOOT WOOT. Three mages and a tree were all that was needed to kill a Crystal Lord! Loot was however a big disappointment. I kept a bracelet of str 6 diff 24x and gauntlets of coord 5 just incase someone could use them. Rest of the loot had a few minors on them but had very bad bases so we just sold all of the stuff for 5 M notes. Ag This is a very old style, due to this type of technique in the next patch Turbine changed the way spawns stuck on the landscape returned to their spawning location. I.E., portalled back at full health and debuffed. |
