Visiting Vissidal - lacking pictures

Hello from the land formerly down under. As it is located off the Northeastern section of Dereth, it isn't down under but was FORMERlY down under.  That is until recently the landmass was hidden deep within the ocean's depths.  Events transpiring during 'Under the Cover of Night' however brought this landmass to the surface and now it can be visited by a chosen few.  Those few are either very brave or very fool hardy!

So how does one journey to this land of weird fauna and golden monsters?  Ah, that is a tale of the blind, leading the foolhardy rescued by quick and deadly.

Previously, I had heard several rumors of this dangerous land of strange plants & animals and had begun a slow investigation of the path to reach it.  It all starts with a visit with Shuthoth in Ayan Baqur.

Shuthoth tells you,

"Welcome, friend.  I seek warriors in search of great adventure.  I represent one who would grant the Isparians of this world much power, much knowledge."

"She has found something.  Something powerful beneath the waves of this world.  A city, ancient and doomed.  The blue-skinned King did his part to raise it from the deep, but I daresay he could not have done it alone."

"Now that the island exists, the lady would ask Dereth's hunters and adventurers to explore its mysteries."

If you seek such a challenge, I bid you take this gem and place it within the empty eye of one of Aerlinthe's Watchers.  The Watchers will tell you what else you must do."

"You have the spark of adventure within you. Good luck, my friend."

Shuthoth gives you Devastated Watcher Token.

So off to Aerlinthe, to find this Watcher with an empty eye and give it this token.  As luck would have it I'd arrived and journeyed east along the coast, and the first watcher I came across happened to be the one!

The Watcher looks down on you, a glint in its one good eye. There appears to be something missing from the other eye socket.

You give Devastated Watcher Watcher Token.

The gem clicks into place within the Watcher's empty eye socket.  The statue hums to life and looks down upon you.  You hear a whisper in your mind, "Appease the Gatekeepers," then all grows quiet.

Appease the Gatekeepers, well during random bits of bragging and drunken boasting overheard in various taverns, I'd realized that there were four watchers.  Appeasing them had something to do with the recent scavenger hunt that had the interest of quite a few of my fellows. Everyone seemed to be in search of

Swamp Stone - well that's easy several places like the Idol Proving Grounds and five or six dead mosswarts will get one 3 or 4 of them.  Or at a casino for the less adventerous.

Virindi Yellow Jewel - ugly Virindi seem to be every where these days, but I like the Virindi Complex as one can usually pick up a singularity key or two during the trip.  The only trouble is that one has to be flagged for entry by that mad woman in Glendon Woods.  I seem to recall that these too may be won at the casinos.

Pyreal Bar - who doesn't have a bar or ingot or 3 in storage. Lots of 'trade you one ingot for 2 bars' went on for several days.  But any good dungeon filled with golems such as Mt Naipenset Caverns (5.6N 56.2W) should get one the makings of a bar in short order.

Sezzherei's Lair portal gem - now this is the deal killing clincher.  Usually only found on a fallen species, the fallen's had recently fallen onto hard times and hadn't been seen in great numbers of late.  Usually they are only seen in two places VoD (where I'd not seen one in months) and Caul Isle (where I'd never seen one, of course due to infrequent trips to that nightmarish hellhole, that's understandable).  But here once again luck was on my side, being basically a packrat on two legs, hidden deep within the recess of my backpack were two of these now highly sought after rare no-give items.

So I was good to go, all that was needed was to meet these gatekeepers and make them HAPPY.

Anyway's I turned in my token and slowly but steadily made my way back thru the dungeon, killing the mostly solo critters in my path - here my philosophy is IF I run into trouble up ahead I want a clear path of retreat. Encountered during the trip was:

Doomed Spirits (debuffs and casts flame blade spells, does slashing physical damage),

Entropy Wisps (drains and debuffs),

Bone Scourges (flame spell, slash bludge physical damage), and

I remember running into Fire and Electrical traps but there may have been a few others that I missed or don't recall.

Eventually I came upon a big room with alcoves and a ramp up that turned left. I entered and made it up the ramp when the brown stuff hit the oscillating rotating blades (I.E. the stuff hit the fan):

Up the ramp, no portal on the radar, which way do I go?

You say, "Roiga Thiloi"

and the way I go is OUT OF HERE, I beat a retreat within several points of a free lifestone trip.

So trip one, ended in a tie. I knew I could make it back to what was supposed to be near the end without much of a problem.  Discovering just where the rumored portaled to the Gatekeepers was and getting there, well that seemed to be a Gordon-ian Knot.

The second trip went very much like the first.  Further inquiries had revealed the portal was much closer then I realized.  Turning left once up the ramp there straight ahead up the stairs, hidden due to distance was a closed door to the portal. So the idea was to RUN like the wind and hope the door wasn't locked.

Well that didn't seem to work, ran into a brick wall on the staircase.  Before I realized the brick wall was more of those &^@###%$%&&## invisible Entropy Wisps, it was time to Roiga Thiloi in retreat once more.

Ok, two trips but more intell gathered.

This & that occurred and it was several days before I had a chance to revisit the dungeon of my defeat.  But Realms II, had recently acquired the height status necessary for island visitation (level 130) and was just back from Caul where he'd found a lair gem on the second fallen encountered.

He was talking about going to go visit the isle, I silently chuckled knowing the trip was a lot harder then he envisioned and wasn't gone to be just a simple jaunt.

Of course my silent chuckles were drown out the guffaws of the quest muses ROTFLTAO over my thinking R2 was under estimating the journey.  As events would later show, I too was vastly under estimating the difficulty of the quest!

After R2's quick recall to AB for the token, we departed for Aerlinthe.  As I arrived Capt Justice landed with a thud and immediately took off quickly to the east.  About the only thing of interest to him to the east would be the Watcher so I telled him for some info on that final room that was bothering me.

Full of knowledge, he shot back u mean the hub looking room.  Huh? Hub, what u mean Willis?  No, I replied the ramp room filled with nattiness that I couldn't seem to handle solo that lead to the portal to the Gatekeepers.  Oh that's easy, came the reply.

Ok, whenever someone says 'Oh that's easy' it's a good time to double your life insurance policy.  Cause what they mean is well after you've been thru it a dozen times or so, it's not too bad.

Anyway, being the quest leader he is he slowed down and waited for us at the drop point from the doomed watcher.  Where he explained it was easy for a solo to just run thru the room (knowing about the wisps helps) & get thru the door and hopefully into the portal before needing to cash in that D&D policy (death and dismemberment).  Of course what isn't easy for a 200+ toon should also be factored into any equation.

Or if in a large enough group, you could fight your way thru. Being as we were a group of 3 mages solo running was determined to be the best ploy.  With CJ running in first dragging the welcoming committee away to one side and letting us slip thru relatively un-inhindered.

So we started off, and bam my immediate reaction was why do they call him Capt Justice, I think Flash would be a better name.  He was moving thru this dungeon at several times the speed of light (hence not a lot of pictures as yet on this quest, as my image capturing device doesn't work when traveling that those speeds).  About the only thing we stopped for was him to check on the chests - a couple of chests are in this dungeon on a week timer for free loot - and the occasional corridor blocking wisps.

Thus in no time were we at the final room.  He dashed off and dragged the crew to one side and we quickly made for the ramp, left turned and headed towards the stairs to the door.  Once opened there was the safety of the portal and we were quickly thru.

Where upon we arrived at the Gatekeepers, four crystals high atop a mountain on the southern landbridge.

Shemza tells you,

"A warrior! A warrior comes! Brothers, feast your eyes on one who would give their lives willingly to the great lord!"

"You seek to bask in the glory of Grael, do you not?  You seek to join us in the worship of he who is more powerful, more glorious, than all who have come before?  My brothers and I, we were the first to join his side.  We were there when he led us to victory over the old ones.  We helped him slay the mages and lay waste to their cities.  We were there when he led an army upon the heretics of the light."

"When defeat fell upon us, we knew that our ascendance was only delayed.  One day, we knew that our god would rise from the depths and claim that which is his.  And we knew that ones such as you would seek to free him from his chains."

"And now you are here.  You seek to barter with us who have given our souls in exchange for life eternal.  Those of us who have lengthened our lives for the sole purpose of delivering warriors unto him."

"Yes. You are here now.  And now you will aid me.  And then you will aid my brothers."

"I seek a boon. One small boon.  The masters of the portal carry a token of golden hue.  A token that I would claim as mine own.  Find it and deliver it to me.  Then the first part of your quest shall begin."

You give Shemza Yellow Jewel.

"I have altered your body.  You may now use our portal near Ayan Baqur."

"Seek out the Radiant Crystal.  Bring a shard to my brother Lurza. Then he will treat with you."

And off you get portalled.

This first dungeon trip was very much a repeat of the first dungeon, more Doomed Spirits, Entropy Wisps and Bone Scourges.

We arrived in the north and had to make our way south and then westward.  At the first juncture to the North and South are levers that operate two of the four doors to the west.  North lever opens southern door and obviously the south lever opens the northern door.  Thru the door one can then jump into the pit or across to a chest, 7 day timer for looting.  Obviously most folks will first jump across, loot and then drop down.

The second level has four exits leading off in the four cardinal compass points, but in reality all lead you to the SW corner where you will be directed up a ramp to the south.  Following the cooridor around first to the southeast, then north, followed by east and once again south you enter into the room with the Radiant Crystal which if killed, will drop the Radiant Shard.  Of course knowning this in advance helps as we were blindly racing behind CJ, into a room and then once more the brown smelly stuff hit the rotating blades.  In that 3 mages entered, and only one departed.

Seemed CJ had forgotten & forgotten to mention the room also contained Spirits, Wisps and Scourges.  So we back tracked down the hallway to regroup as - CJ quickly briefed us on the minor details: kill the cyrstal, grab a shard, take the exit portal - in a smaller area where we could use the walls to our advantage.  Instead of standing in the center of a big room and letting everyone toss everything they had at us at the same time.

Eventually, we cleared enough so I could move into the short southern cooridor and face, abiet for a distance, the Radiant Crystal.  Once the other mage finished off the remaining RC groupies he too began blasting ole RC.

You say, "Zojak Quareth"
You flatten Radiant Crystal's body with the force of your assault!

Capt Justice says, "grab a shard from it and hit the portal"

Grabed a shard from the fallen Radiant Crystal, but stopped long enough to retrieve the DI's from our fallen commrade before hitting the portal.  About the time I was leaving the Crystal was returning from it's lifestone trip, so I wouldn't recommend wasting a lot of time in the room.

The portal returned us to the Gatekeepers and we awaited the return of our commrade.  We rebuffed, passed first the Radiant Shard and then Sezzherel's Lair Gem to Lurza.

You give Lurza Radiant Shard.

Lurza tells you,

"Long have we waited, trapped within these crystalline forms, waiting for those who would join him in his quest.  And now you come.  You come seeking our approval. But are you worthy?"

"There is something I seek.  The key to one who once followed our cause.  A traitor who makes his home among the winged demons of the dark.  Bring the key to this fallen lord, and I will grant you passage."

You give Lurza Sezzherei's Lair portal gem.

"The demon Sezzherei once called himself our brother.  But when he betrayed our lord to the ancient mages, he fell from Grael's favor.  Our brother Tursh slew Sezzherei on the battlefield, or so we all believed.  Now he claims the dark as his master, and seeks to appease its twisted whims."

"Sezzherei will once again know the taste of his own blood.  When Grael rises and marches across this land, Sezzherei will kneel once again."

"Now find the Dazzling shard, and give it to my brother Dmesne."

Ah, that portalling sensation once again.

This dungeon has Diseased Green Wasps, Bone Scourges, Acid Elements and the Dazzling Crystal.  We arrived in the southern end of a long room and the only exit was to the north which funneled us eastward.  After a series of ramps we came to a SE or North branch.  The SE branch was a few short feet to a chest, so we looted that and moved north to a room with a view of a pit.

Dropping down a level we faced a long SE cooridor that lead to a circle path with rooms to the east and another pit down.  This drop really dropped us in it - it being an acid pool flooring.  We are on the north and have to make our way south, either se then sw or sw then se to a more opened room with a ledge.  In front of the ledge is a cut out with a screen mesh that one can jump up onto if your jump isn't strong enough to make it all the way up to the ledge on the first leap.  Of course there are hordes of annoying wasps and standing in the acid to clear them isn't a good idea.  Best to jump onto the screen, clear most of the wasps and then jump up to the real ledge and turn upon the Dazzling Crystal.

With three mages blasting away at DC it was a bit quicker:

You cast Tusker's Gift on Dazzling Crystal

The thunder of crushing Dazzling Crystal is followed by the deafening silence of death!

So grab a shard, and hit the portal. Seems like we just did that.

You give Dmesne Dazzling Shard.

Dmesne tells you,

"There is a metal, a pure metal of great power.  You use it to strengthen your arms, barbarians that you are.  One bar is all I ask.  One bar and you shall have my blessing."

You give Dmesne Pyreal Bar.

"Within this chamber lies the Brilliant Crystal.  Take a shard to my brother Rhujun, and you will be escorted to the isle of water."

Beam us up/down/where-ever Scottie.  We arrived on the western side of an oblong east-west room with the only exit to the north.  This lead us north-ward thru two bigger rooms till we could journey east, southeast to a huge north-south room with an exit at the southern end.  There before turning down the ramps to our right were more lootable chests.

After the ramps we ended up in a odd shaped east-west room that had an acid pit to the south, running around the pit on the ledge we eventually reached the exit to the east on the far wall.  This cooridor meandered first south, then north, then finally south again into a 3-section huge room.

We ran to the very back of the room, and as CJ & R2 were busy clearing the Crystal's groupies I started in on ole BC and hoped they could join in later:

Brilliant Crystal is shattered by your assault!

A repeat of the grab a shard and run routine.  You give Rhujun Brilliant Shard.

Rhujun tells you,

"There are those of wet skin and barbaric means.  They carry the meanest of stones, a stone whose power is unknown even to them.  I would have it, little one."

"I would have it now."

You give Rhujun Swamp Stone.

"The cousins of these young ones make their homes on the bones of the ancients.  They know not the power that surrounds them.  Such simple creatures they are."

And once again, you guessed it, portaled away.

We arrived on a small isle nearly in the center by a lifestone and the Flame Guardian.  May be wise to hit the lifestone, if something happens it makes getting back to this point a whole lot quicker!

Flame Guardian tells you,

"Welcome to my lonely isle, little one.  You seek the mysteries of Vissidal, do you not?  Many have come before you.  Many will follow in your footsteps. T he power which once lay dormant beneath the waves has surfaced.  I fear the new rulers of this world will regrettheir meddling before all is done."

"You seek a boon from me, do you not?  You seek my permission to further your quest?"

"You must prove yourself, little one.  You must bathe in the cleansingwaters of the deep.  You must destroy the spirits of Water that lay claim to this isle."

Thus it is off to kill 5 Water Golems and return.

You have killed 1 Water Golems! You must kill 5 to complete your task. .......

You have killed 5 Water Golems! Your task is complete!

Flame Guardian tells you, "The waters of the deep cover your flesh.  You have been cleansed.  I sense the spirit of Grael about you.  I deem you worthy, little one."

Portalled once again, to what strangely appears to be the hub, but isn't.  We raced down to the jump point and stopped to debuff the main monster.  The game plan seems to be isolate him, run north into an alcove and concentrate on killing him.  Then upon his death hop the portal that appears in the center of the main room:

Remember we are three mages in a small alcove blasting away at this sucker, and you can see the abuse the 'limited' groupies are tossing my way. Of course I've got my back to the entrance with CJ and R2 opposite me and Bur Lizk in the middle.

Portal hopping time!

Yet another handy Lifestone and Guardian on another island.  So again, you may want to hit it just incase, for a quick return should the unspeakable happen.

Water Guardian tells you,

"You have done much to reach this point. You have appeased the Gatekeepers. You have been bathed in the waters of the Deep. You have bested the warrior Bur Lizk. And now you seek my blessing."

"As you were bathed in the waters of the deep, now must you be cleansed by its fires. Slay the spirits of Flame. Bask in their glory."

You have killed 1 Fire Golems! You must kill 5 to complete your task. .......

You have killed 5 Fire Golems! Your task is complete!

Water Guardian tells you,

"You have been cleansed by the spirits of Flame.  The essence of Grael wraps about you like a lover's embrace. Soon, you will be his."

"Give this to the Watcher of the Deep, and then you shall know glory."

Water Guardian gives you Watery Token.

Portalled, once again. To the proximity of a Watcher of the Deep.

You give Watcher of the Deep Watery Token.

You feel a low rumble, and the statue looks down upon you. You hear a whisper in your mind, "The isle of the deep is yours," then all grows quiet.

You've earned 190,000,000 experience.

So we got to vissadal isle, thanks to the assistance and direction of CJ.  I wasn't aware of the 3 killing dungeons, hub and 2 isles so it would have been a much longer trip.  But then I prefer exploring and discovering the pains of the vogage.  So while I would have been disappointed upon reaching the 4 Gatekeepers and attempting to turn in the four items, I would have been happy to discovered there was still a whole LOT more to do.

Strange we have the quest for the Grael gems to improve weapon damage and now talk of 'the Glory of Grael' by Shemza.   Do we have another major dark figure looming on the horizon to defeat?
