Farmer Kao tells you,

"My crops! My livestock! Some vile creature has been ravaging my farm at night! Would you help me stop this terror? I have followed its tracks to a cave south of here, but I am too afraid to continue. Please help me."

A short wasy to the south is a bunker portal.  The first big room contains Kao's Feed Bag. Shortly after exiting the first big room one chooses left or right. Going left leads one thru a series of rooms where you can find the Gardening Gloves, Water Bucket and the Fazenda Terror.  The shades can be a pain to kill if you are level appropriate and their corpse yields nada in the way of bootie.

Going back to the start and going right quickly ends in a big room with the Shovel.  With all the items it is time to return to Farmer Kao.

You give Farmer Kao Farmer Kao's Gardening Gloves.

"There they are! I've been looking for those gloves. Maybe these blisters on my hands will heal now. Thank you!"

You give Farmer Kao Farmer Kao's Feed Bag.

"There it is! My chickens will be happy that their feed bag has been returned. They were getting really hungry. Thank you!"

You give Farmer Kao Farmer Kao's Water Bucket.

"My water bucket! Where did you find that? This will make trips to the well so much easier now. Thank you!"

You've earned 75,000 experience.

I have no doubt that returning the shovel would yield you 75,000 experience.  BUT the shovel is used on another quest, Cragstone Drudge Fort, and with the items being on a 6 day timer I didn't want to give it up.
