Atlan Major Smoldering Stone

The major smoldering stone, what a ghastly dungeon this is hidden away in. Despite the portal duping accident during the Heart of Woe events some of the out of the way impossible to get to portal locations for some folks were mysteriously duplicated in relatively safer locations. This still remains as one of the most nasty in all of dereth to navigate your way thru - at least for the jumping impaired (see below for standardized jumping methods to be used/mentioned)!

Major Stones not only power-up Atlan Weapons, but they also provide enhanced AL & Elemental Protections toShadow Hunter Armor. Even the newer Isparian Weapons can be fitted with Major Atlan Stones.

The adventerous can reach Jahanna Vault via Crater Village. Exiting the crater through the "V" near the stone pillars. Being especially leery of the fire elementals! Run along the edge of the crater until you reach the Jahanna Vault portal.

For the less adventerous, the Vault is easily reached via the Khayyaban Serpent Hills housing settlement portal and running east, or from Al-Jalima's Mahara Cottages portal and running North.

Inside you'll find Zofrit Zefirs, Fire Elementals (including Flares, Flammas & Infernos), and Sewer Rats. Use of a cold weapon and buffing against fire attacks, and slashing and piercing is suggested.

Go through the door at the entry and take a left at the grate. When you reach your first landing, jump down and take the stairs on the west down to either side of the lower level or jump off the buldge in the middle of the room you landed on.

Kill the Zefirs since if later jumps fail you'll be revisiting this area, this is true of most of your journey. Kill everything in your path because if you are not a good jumper it is very likely you will have to retrace portions of the route several times and the monsters get to be even more annoying each time you attempt to run by them.

On the east side is an access into/under the dividing buldge and a ramp up. Take your first right up a ramp. You'll be making lefts the rest of the way up; lefts at the "T", then left at the "T" again by the Mountain Rats,

left to the catwalk, left past the grated door   Note: just as you are about to turn the corner at the grate you will be running into 2 or 3 zefirs and maybe a rat

to the edge overlooking the central vault .

Time to test your jumping skills. Hope you aren't like me, or you'll be putting them to the test again, again, again and again.  Ahead of you is a platform with a chain dangling down.

Center yourself directly opposite the dangling chain and then do a full shift jump onto the platform.  If you fall, it's ok; you can run back up. Walk east on the planks and center yourself on the other dangling chain do a tap jump into the opening on the north wall.

Head left up the ramp to the next ledge and do a full shift jump across to a platform.

Take the right passage (heading south) by doing a tap jump into the corridor.

Head up the ramp and make a left at the "T" and stop at the next edge.

Do a full shift jump onto the platform

This is a nasty area in that you jump onto a platform that if you go too far smacking into the wall or landing on the support beam, you will be falling down below.  Where as you begin your run/jump series to get back here you'll be very glad you killed all the monsters earlier.

then do a full shift jump onto the platform to the east.  From the 2nd platform, do a tap jump into the hall.

Once onto the first platform I found it much easier to just do nearly a full jump over the 2nd platform and land at the doorway.

Follow the hall up until you reach the spiral staircase.

Be careful! They're guarded by an Inferno. Take the two sets of stairs up then do a full shift jump south, and a tap jump south. Head down the corridor until you reach the room with the wheelbarrows.

The lore from about Atlans can be found within this dungeon. If you like, jump down from the wheelbarrow room to the platform below to the north. Jump down again to the east. The Carefully Printed Note spawns on the floor near some crates. Of course it is unreadable till translated, Cragstone is a good location for that.

Obviously if you went after the lore you'll have to head back up to the wheelbarrow room for the final leg of the adventure.

From the wheelbarrow room head down the ramp to the west and follow the corridor until you're facing a walled grate behind a platform to the west.

Do a full power jump across. If you fall, there's a passage that takes you all the way back up to where you should have landed - on a ramp over the pits below half way between the original jump and the walled grate. From that 2nd northern jump take the west passage to the edge of the pit.

Be prepared for a battle before you jump. A group of upto 5 Zefirs will immediately attack and it's possible the Inferno and the Flare may also be attracted into the fray.

The Smoldering Stone spawns on the floor near the Inferno in the final room. Rumors abound from the old days about picking up a stone every 60 hours, but it may be as short as 5 hours these days.

Also on the floor to the left of the stone is a text book.

If you entered from the less southern location's portal, please be wary of exiting the portal before the stone. It drops you just outside the northern portal and you could be in serious danger.

To wrap things up, head to Cragstone to have the Carefully Printed Note translated.

You give Bretself the Translator Carefully Printed Note.

Bretself the Translator tells you, "This is a curious and alarming little message. It appears to be an archival record of an earlier message, sent from a garrison town to the royal court of the Empire of Yalain."

Bretself the Translator gives you Archival Copy.
