During the Intelligent Design event, July 2007 patch, Bobo's quest was slightly changed in that 2 new NPCs were added. As of that patch Mudmouth, to the right of bobo does all the portalling to the testing room and awarding of fingers. Read more about that changed here.
First thing Saturday morning I logged in to perform clean up after the night before hunting with Sun, when Nae'blis [melee 126+] asked if I wanted to go on the Bobo quest. Had planned to only sell and clean up but Bosco and the recall to AL scroll, interesting. Seeing the party he had assembled: Time'zha [mage 95], Kesko [mage 126+], Geraden [archer 126+], Theriac [mage 102] it sounded like I could actually survive the quest. So I muled Ag's sturdy GSA and liberated Dagger Mastery II's 300ish AL blue Amuli. Word was the GSA wouldn't be upto the task of keeping him alive with all the assailers, and worse, tuskers we would be facing. once everyone had buffed we separated to the four winds as each seemed to have a different method of getting to AL isle - some recalled, some headed towards the Hub while others leaped thru Tung's portal into the 40+ shrine. Assembled once again on AL isle, Ag's attention was momentarily distracted by a news flash update [the shuttle's breakup was just being shown] and when he returned the screen was void of anything green. If you are a mage keep your eyes on the screen those darn melees with their lewt spec'd chase monster skill can disappear off your radar quicker then free snacks at a pub. Wasn't a problem we were only going to Kleeoh's cottage on the beach at the first island south of the cross over point [2.5s 84.4E]. Arriving at the cottage we first had to clear the area of the annoying groupies that had attached themselves to our small parade. But once that was accomplished it was wait in line to talk to Kleeoh, he will only talk to one individual at a time and with his slight speech impediment getting the rather long story told can take some time. After everyone was flagged it was off to the waterfall portal on top of the mountain SW of Kleeoh's [8.7S 85.7E, 80+ to enter]. Learn from the mistake of poor Ag he raced up the to mountain peak as it was mentioned the portal was on the mountain. Truthfully it is, but it's at the base of another mountain with a waterfall, which is on top of a mountain and not on tippy top peak of the entire mountain itself. Once inside where it was safe to rebuff, Barsun [archer 126+] awoke from his slumber and decided to join us so we rebuffed and logged at the mansion until he could catch up. Then it was time to form up and fight our way down the dungeon to a shrine to get us to the next dungeon. Where it was once again fight our way down, thru turns and dead ends to a portal to another dungeon. In about the third dungeon the air is so bad that one is constantly taking some small damage to further aggravate the situation. So we fought and fought our way thru sycophants, assailers, devastators, annihilators and a few sections reapers and chittiks. I think it was in the second dungeon [we may have passed thru the Tusker warriors Lair, Tuskers Food Storage and the Legend of Tusker King dungeons on this epic journey it was hard to keep up with the fast pace. Seems melees have the bad habit of after a big battle running immediately off which for some poor very mana drained mage means either getting left behind or arriving at the next big battle mana deficient] where there was a long series of down ramps where Nae' had to run ahead and bring back the assailers and devastators to our party huddled in the safety of the upper corner. But slowly we worked our way onward thru the dungeon[s], stopping to rebuff as time was running out.
Luck was on our side; just as we finished rebuffing monkeys re-spawned. Was almost a shame to kill them after they had been so polite and waited for us to finish our re-buff. Finally it was one more portal and there in the distance was a huge monkey in a funny hat. Much like Kleeoh, folks were granted an audience one by one and when finished disappeared. The king had sent them off to the final room with it's exit to the Arena of the Tusker Hero [80+]. So it was check the buffs and prepare for the final battle, victory or defeat was just at the end of the portal in front of us. Now it was time to once again queue up and wait to see ole king kong to learn of our reward. The one who defeated the champion gets three monkey paws while those merely in the chamber at the time of defeat are given one. Sucks being a mage, after all those vul spells sure go a long way towards maximizing the damage done but do we get any of the credit? No once again it’s a melee that gets the glory! A melee one may note that probably wouldn’t survive without life and item magic protections either, ah us mages always get the short end of the stick [grin]. Once one has their monkey paw, they need only take the portal of wishes to arrive at the room filled with shrines on which to use them. The shrine of Artificer’s wish will inscribe the AL recall spell in your spell book, other shrines provide various skill experience. Geraden used his 2nd and 3rd paws on the bow shrine and was rewarded with 100K and 1M bow experience. Most embarrassing moment during the quest, about the 2nd dungeon Ag stopped casting and was getting an out of comp message. What the heck? I usually start out with 2K tapers how can I be ou- oh my gosh had logged in to restock got to talking about the quest and we started on the quest with out actually restocking. Many shades of beet red went my face! Also note those 3 dungeons are quite huge and even with Rhand semi famaliar with the way thru took over an hour to fight our way thru. Good luck to any mage that would like to wander thru trying to explore/map these dungeons without a huge supporting party of melees.
Ag so went the allegiance's first trip thru the quest. Since then we have learned the shortest possible route and can usually get back to the mansion with time remaining on the first set of level 7 buffs. Give Paw to the statute corresponding to the skill you want to receive a benefit or reward. When using a statue, it is more likely you will receive a random amount of XP - 50,000, 100,000, 500,000, or 1,000,000 - directly into the skill of the statue you handed your paw to. Exceptions to this is the first time you use the Artificer's Wish (Item Magic), which will write the recall spell in your scroll book and the Greedy Wishes which will give you 90 Trade Notes of a random type, up to M notes. Supposedly to receive various rewards other then experience one must have the skill of the alter at least Learned.
