New content and Functionality

The Festival season is upon us once again.  Dereth once again is abound with tricks and treats. Fun is in the air!

The Scarecrows have once again begun appearing on the landscape throughout Dereth.

The first stages of our proposed improvements to the trade skills will be going in this month. Players who have the Alchemy skill trained will have the ability to create new 7th level protection gems.  These gems will be able to be traded or given to any player and can be used by any player to cast the various Life Magic protection spells on themselves.

Viamontian Racial Masks have finally been made. The maskmakers have been hard at work once again.

In keeping with our theme of revising some areas of the game for better hunting we have added some new tasks to continue the improvements in the area known as the Valley of Ruin.

Miscellaneous Changes and Improvements

The spellcraft on the upgraded versions of the Composite Bow and Crossbow has been raised to better reflect the level of the players using them.  This raise in spellcraft will affect the weapons ability to cast on strike.

A typo in the description of the modified Silifi of the Crimson Night has been fixed.

There was a bug that would prevent Alduressa leggings from being picked up off the ground. This has been fixed for the October event.

When the October event goes live newly acquired white rabbit slippers should now appear white instead of the off white that appeared after the launch of ToD.  This only applies to newly created slippers and not previously crafted slippers.

Society System Overview

As we fast approach the 100th content update we felt it was a good time to start detailing some of the key features that will be included in this major event. Working towards and on this event has been a pleasure for all of us and we sincerely hope everyone will enjoy what we have in store. So without further delay, lets discuss out first new feature, Societies and the new Society system.

As many will remember, we made a brief visit to Factions during the Grael story arc, where we let players choose sides. For the most part these Society choices were cosmetic and did nor have a real impact on gameplay. With this new system, players will choose a Society and their choice will have an impact on their game, both directly and indirectly.

There will be three Societies to choose from, The Radiant Blood, The Celestial Hand, and The Eldrytch Web. Each Society has its own ideals and beliefs as to what should happen on Dereth and beyond. Players will be given the chance to discover the principles of each Society and choose which group they want to join. But choose wisely, because changing Societies will not be something easily done. There are penalties for those who are not loyal.

In order to join a Society, players will need to have reached certain goals in Dereth. The leaders of each Society want only the strongest members of society. To that end, players will need to be level 180 in order to join a Society. Those who are below that level will be able to help out Society members on certain tasks, but they will not yet be able to join a Society. (This is not the only content being added to the game that players below 180 will be able to do).

Players will begin their journey into the world of Societies by speaking to one of the Society recruiters located in Hebian-to, Cragstone or Zaikhal. These recruiters will know if you have already joined another Society, so do not try to fool them. If a player has not joined a Society yet, the recruiter will send them on a task to speak to another. And thus the journey begins. The path to joining and gaining favor in a Society is not an easy one, but the rewards for doing so are well worth it.

Once a player is part of a Society, they will need to complete a series of tasks in order to gain favor with their Society’s leadership. Each series of tasks will take place in different locations around Dereth, based on what Society ranking the player is attempting to acquire. When the system goes live, players will be able to ascend to rank five in their Society, but this process will take some time and effort. Gaining ranks in a Society not only unlocks more tasks, players will also be rewarded with things like pulls from Level 8 loot chests and unique Society based armor sets.

Players who join a Society (also referred to as Societies in-game) will also gain access to Society strongholds. These Strongholds are the hearts of their Societies, where Players will go to complete quests for their Societies, resupply, rest, and hang out. They are designed to be Society-specific hubs, complete with quests, Vendors and relevant Lore.

This is just a brief overview of just one of the new features coming with the 100th content update for Asheron’s Call. There are more details and nuances related to this system which we will describe in more detail as we get closer to the launch of the event. We have many more features and updates that we will be discussing in the coming weeks as well as a few surprises.

Hello there and welcome to the March Release Notes! With the defeat of Aerbax, there is a feeling of hope in the air. Could it be a coincidence that spring has arrived early?

Let’s see what else is going on in Asheron’s Call for the month of March.

Aerbax Fight Changes

  • The Emissary of Asheron is now friendlier to players who have defeated Aerbax.
  • Some new items have been added to the rewards for defeating Aerbax. Players may want to run this quest again, and see what they might get.
  • A typo in Aerbax’s intro dialog has been fixed. He now knows how to spell his own name.
  • Players should not be able to stay on Aerbax’s platform after defeating him.
  • Aerbax should no longer be having the issue which caused him to pop back to full health.
  • Due to the change that was needed to make sure Aerbax did not pop back to full health, we have raised his overall health level to ensure the fight remains challenging to players.
  • The Emissary of Asheron should now give time estimates to players waiting for another group to finish the Aerbax quest.
  • There is now a shortcut to the portal device for players, so there is no longer a need to make the long run after each death during the Aerbax fight.

Miscellaneous Changes

  • The Spear of Purity has had its attack modifier raised to 15% and its defense modifier raised to 10%.
  • The Chorizite pea now splits into Chorizite powder instead of oil.
  • Asheron’s Servant now accepts the Charged Shards.
  • The Gladiator's Defense Armor Augments description has been changed to, raises bludgeon resistance by .2 (since that's what it does). Its cost has been lowered to 15 coins.
  • The Chorizite pea from Trial of the Heart now states it can't be split (it never could be and confused some people).
  • The Gem of Spectral Force's description now states melee weapons only.
  • Scepter of Might now has a 18% attack mod and a 7% defense mod.
  • The Spectral Crystal of the Life Giver now has a life magic icon instead of war.
  • Winter is over in Dereth and spring is upon us. The snow has melted away and once again the baby creatures of Dereth roam the landscape.
  • There have been reports that some kind of strange statue has appeared near the Mage Academy.
  • As we approach the beginning of April, make sure you are on the lookout for some “foolish” activities.
  • The Magic Defense Weapon Augmentation gem now works on wands.
  • The Sword of Soroku has had its multi strike removed, and should now have a wield requirement.
  • The Spellbook interface has been reorganized in preparation for level 8 spells.

Quest Experience Updates
We have changed or raised the experience that player can receive on some of our older quests this month. Many of our older quests gave a flat rate or no xp at all for completion. We have begun the process of adjusting some of these quests to be more in line with the rewards we are now giving out for quest completion. Below is a list of the quests that have been adjusted for the month of March. If the xp mechanics have changed in any way, it will be detailed below. Please note that at no point should the rewards player get be lessened by these changes.

  • Aerlinthe: No change to mechanics, players will now receive a percentage based reward for completion.
  • Gaerlan: Players will now receive a percentage based xp reward for completing the quest, as well as the xp for turning in the sword.
  • Impious Staff: Players will now receive a percentage based xp reward along with the staff upon completion of the quest.
  • Crystal Array Core: Players will now receive a percentage based xp reward for turning in Soul Gems to the same NPC’s who hand out the weapons upon completion of the quests.

So there are just some of the things we have in store for Asheron's Call in March. Please remember that along with everything listed here, there are several new quests and exciting things going into the game for the March event.

The Darktide server will remain down for the remainder of the night, and will come back up with the rest of the worlds, once the maintenance has been completed.
