I should point out a few things before you all go and upgrade immediately:

  1. This is expected to be the last public build before the 'New View/Rendering System' is integrated.
  2. Many plugins may well need to be rebuilt and updated for this build
  3. We'll be disabling alpha 6 builds with the next AC Patch (Encourage your favorite plugin developer to update!)
  4. We've made a LOT of changes. Don't expect much support on Alpha 6 after today.
  5. I don't know what item 5 is, but I wanted to include it..
  6. A partial backport of the new rendering system's back-end code has given us more features and a big speed increase on our HUDs, particularly when rendering text.
  7. We've updated the prerequisites, but they should be easier to install too.

New Prerequisites:

  • .NET Framework 2.0
  • April 2006 drop of D3DX.
  • VC 2005 Runtime

Change Summary:

  • We've added a bootstrapper to setup! No more remembering to get all the right prerequisites, they should be installed by setup now.
  • DecalUtil is installed by Setup now.
  • DenAgent (What you start when you start Decal) is now partly managed, including a new managed updater. (Should do away with all the download errors)
  • D3DService is integrated into core decal. (This opens up all sorts of possibilities for plugins to add 3D items to the 'world')
  • DecalContainer now an optional part of Setup for Developers
  • Surrogate Code cleaned up, enforcing that plugins using killbitted surrogates don't load. MANY PLUGINS MAY FAIL BECAUSE OF THIS UNTIL UPDATED!
  • Fixed transparency issues with AC itself while running Decal
  • Decal DLL selfreg no longer clobbers PIA registration making Decal.Adapter more errorproof
  • WorldFilter wrapping for Decal.Adapter
  • HUD transparency behaves more as you would expect it to.
  • Better Font/Image caches in RenderService (HUDs)
  • TilePortalImage added to all Rendering surfaces (Primarily HUDs)
  • TilePortalImageEx/DrawPortalImageEx added to all Rendering surfaces (Primarily HUDs) enabling partial source rects and other neat features.
  • Fix .NET exes to run x86, not Any (so they run in wow32 rather than as x64 on x64 machines).
  • Decal.Adapter: Extension event messaging system
  • Code Signing of setup.exe/decal.msi (And most other binaries) with a certificate from a self-issued CA. (Root certificate installation necessary)
  • FileService changed namespace and classname (Was: Decal.FileService.Service, is now Decal.Filters.FileService)
  • Added better ways to get .NET filters from Decal.Adapter (ie: Core.Filter()
  • Many other misc bugs fixed throughout the rest of Decal, including buffer overruns and other stability changes in many places.
